Don’t vote for anyone who doesn’t have a housing plan

Somehow these last 365 days have lasted 10,000 years. This year has felt even longer for those
It has not been long enough, however, for Florida’s politicians to release their Housing plans- you know the most basic requirement on Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs?

Marco Rubio is a self proclaimed economic populist but he has not managed to even misquote a bible verse in response to thousands of his constituents being threatened with homelessness. Senator Rubio could work to improve housing programs for military families. Homes that will not poison them perhaps? Maybe he could write a bill guaranteeing free housing for veterans so we don’t have any homeless vets?

Rick Scott took the floor to passionately argue against poor people getting unemployment benefits, saying it was a horrible way of life. Richard Lynn Scott could easily pass a bill to raise wages and freeze rent hikes. He claims he grew up on the verge of Homelessness, why doesn’t he care where you are sleeping?

Governor Desantis let the eviction moratorium expire months ago, growing tired of anxiety filled midnight signings to extend the state moratoriums and has not made an ad commissioning his child to build affordable housing units across the country.

Why didn’t Matt Gaetz take a break from insurrections and pedophilia and change the tax code to make rent tax deductible like mortgages?

Charlie Crist is running for governor again, yay, don’t vote for him if he can’t be bothered to commit to releasing a detailed plan about how he will reduce homelessness in FL. If it’s going to be the same shitty policies with a better smile I’d rather not waste our time.

Val Deming’s is running for eh something? Cool, maybe sign on to AOC’s Green new deal for Housing plan before you dip out?

There are Mayors races too, so many.

Every single candidate better tell you how they will personally work to protect you from being thrown out on the streets because that is their job. That is what we elect them for, and if they would rather take 11 pieces of silver from real estate PACS they should be pushed out.

Maybe everyone has a secret housing plan that they are holding close to their chest they forgot about them? Maybe they will get around to doing something about this housing crisis after it is over ? Probably not, but who knows maybe they will prove me wrong.

On the off chance that they don’t have any idea’s here are a few:

Increase from 3 days to 14 days before eviction proceedings can begin, because people do not get paid every 3 days.

Make application fees $0.00, because your business plan cannot be reliant on getting as many applicants as possible, saying no to everyone and pocketing all of the fees.

Get rid of rental deposits because it’s your house buddy, you cannot steal people’s money to replace your own carpet. If there are actual damages it should be on the Landlord not the tenant to show and ask for payment.

Give a 12 month notice of any rental hike, because no one should have to guess if they can afford to live in their home a year from now.

Cap the amount rent can increase by every year, just like we did for property taxes.

Or better yet put a maximum rent a unit can charge, maybe 30% of the average income of an area ?

Maybe our State Attorney can actual go after slumlords? Why do we let landlords refuse to fix plumbing or replace wiring to prevent fires?

Maybe increase taxes on out of state landlords, we should extract a cost for people driving up costs of housing in states they don’t even reside in. Maybe we would have more available houses if some investor in Germany couldn’t buy an apartment complex and sell it for 5x what they bought it for.

Change zoning laws to make it easier to build multifamily homes.

Seize the property of landlords that refuse to make necessary repairs to try to avoid rent control.

Prosecute Landlords who pressure their tenants for sex.

If your reaction is oh no, no one would want to be a landlord anymore, well that would fix the problem too.
